Can rubber surfacing go over existing concrete?
Rubber surfacing can often be installed over a suitable concrete or asphalt base after careful preparation. The existing surface must be reasonably stable. Loose areas, drainage problems, significant movement or structural cracks may need repair before the rubber system is installed.
Durham Region weather brings heat, rain, snow, ice and freeze-thaw cycles. Proper base preparation, drainage and edge details are therefore important. We inspect the project rather than assuming every old surface can be covered in the same way.
EPDM and TPV material options
Rubber Decker uses EPDM or TPV rubber, selected according to project requirements, intended use and colour choice. Rubber granules are combined with a professional binder and hand-installed to create a seamless finish. Available colour blends can coordinate with pools, brick, siding, landscaping and other property features.
These systems feel more forgiving underfoot than bare concrete. Textured rubber can also improve traction in wet areas, although no outdoor surface is completely slip-proof and normal care is still required during wet or icy conditions.

Our approximate regular price is $14 per square foot. This is planning guidance rather than a guaranteed quote. The final price depends on the total area, base condition, repairs, access, required thickness, colour blend, borders, edges and design complexity.

Five-year installation and material warranty
Our work includes a five-year warranty covering installation or material failures, subject to the written warranty terms. Normal wear, accidental damage, misuse, movement in the underlying base and conditions outside the installed system are assessed separately. The applicable terms are explained with the quotation before installation.

Is poured rubber suitable around pools?
Yes. Its comfortable texture and seamless appearance make it a popular pool-deck option. The base, drainage and slope must be reviewed before installation.
Does rubber surfacing hide cracks?
It can cover some stable surface cracks after preparation, but it cannot stop structural movement below. Any significant cracking or movement must be evaluated first.
How is the surface maintained?
Regular sweeping, rinsing and occasional gentle washing usually remove normal dirt. Avoid aggressive tools or harsh chemicals that may damage the rubber or binder.
